Bizarre (1987)
A battered wife, an androgynous gardener and one seriously warped husband collide in a glossy Italian erotic thriller where liberation soon develops a kinky dark side.
Lorenza is the beautiful, increasingly numb wife of wealthy engineer Guido Corbi, a respectable businessman whose private appetites are anything but respectable. Guido treats marriage as his personal sex laboratory, staging voyeuristic encounters and sadomasochistic games that grow more humiliating and violent each time. Finally sick of being his well-dressed plaything, Lorenza leaves him and hides away in a rented house at Fregene, where she meets Edward, a gentle young American gardener with long-haired, androgynous good looks. Their affair begins as the clean escape she desperately needs: tender, playful and refreshingly free of Guido’s poisonous control. But Profumo is not really interested in giving Lorenza an easy romantic rescue. Guido continues spying, interfering and using hired muscle to remind the couple...
that his wife remains one of his possessions. More disturbing still, Lorenza has absorbed far more of her husband’s sexual cruelty than she realizes. She gradually becomes the dominant partner with Edward, pulling the shy young man into rougher games, testing his obedience and turning his feminine beauty into a weapon against Guido. The resulting triangle slides from erotic melodrama into psychological revenge, with desire, humiliation and gender performance becoming hopelessly tangled. Director Giuliana Gamba approaches the material from a distinctly female yet hardly comforting angle: men are watched, undressed and manipulated too, but Lorenza’s new power feels infected by the abuse that created it. The film can be clumsy and its psychology is hardly Freud at his sharpest, yet its central idea gets under the skin—the victim does not simply walk away healed; she carries the old bedroom’s sickness into the new one. By the time Lorenza begins setting her trap, romance has curdled into a cold reckoning, and the film heads toward a bleak confrontation rather than the usual soft-focus erotic payoff.
This is pure late-1980s Italian decadence: lacquered interiors, expensive hotels, wine bars, monumental shoulder pads, glossy lingerie and enough hairspray to survive a coastal gale. Rome supplies the polished world of money and respectable appearances, while the seaside district of Fregene offers Lorenza a quieter refuge of villas, gardens and open air—although Guido’s presence soon poisons that escape as well. Giorgio Di Battista’s photography gives the production a slick, commercial sheen, while Franco Piersanti’s music helps maintain its uneasy drift between sensual drama and thriller. Do not expect a tightly engineered giallo full of murders, black gloves and ingenious revelations; Bizarre is closer to a sleazy chamber melodrama with thriller trimmings, an Italian answer to the era of Nine ½ Weeks-style designer kink. Its mood is plush but unhealthy, sometimes absurd, occasionally queasy and more emotionally bitter than genuinely seductive. The experience is like finding a nasty marital argument playing behind the mirrored walls of an upmarket sex club: fascinating in places, embarrassing in others, but certainly difficult to mistake for wholesome entertainment.
Florence Guérin is the picture’s main attraction, and the camera knows it. With her dark hair, strong features, statuesque figure and cool, wounded stare, she can make an outrageous Eighties outfit look like battle armour. Her performance is deliberately passive at first, then turns harder and more predatory as Lorenza begins directing the games herself; she may not make every psychological shift convincing, but her physical presence carries scenes that the script leaves wobbling. Gamba lingers freely over Guérin’s body, yet also gives Robert Egon’s pretty, feminine Edward his share of the erotic gaze. The uncut version contains plentiful nudity, simulated sex, voyeurism, domination, cross-dressing and several deliberately provocative bedroom acts. It is emphatically softcore rather than hardcore, but this is no coy late-night tease either: the film wants flesh, discomfort and sexual power on the screen, with Guérin providing enough sultry allure to make even its more ridiculous perversities strangely watchable.
Florence Guérin… 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥✨✨✨
In this 1987 Italian erotic thriller, stunning Lorenza has had it with her wealthy architect husband Guido’s relentless kink arsenal—forced role-play as a whore, voyeuristic spectacles, pistol-point threats during rough couplings, and an endless parade of humiliating sexual scripts that keep their marriage on a razor’s edge of menace and arousal. She bolts to their secluded beach house and falls hard for the young, soft-featured American gardener Edward, whose androgynous charm lights a freer flame. But Guido won’t let go: he spies on their passionate trysts, sends thugs to rough up the lad, and lurks in her mind. Fuelled by fury and cunning, Lorenza flips the script, dressing the pliable Edward as a seductive woman while she dons masculine drag, luring her husband into a trap of lust and total degradation. The plan twists into violence when he catches on, leading to one final explosive confrontation.
Director Giuliana Gamba crafts a slick, trashy-yet-stylish 80s Italian softcore giallo-tinged revenge tale steeped in the era’s hairspray excess, shoulder-padded power dressing, and unapologetic lingerie-soaked hedonism. Shot against the scenic sun-drenched stretches of the Italian coast and that lonely beach house backdrop—think rolling waves, private dunes, and isolated luxury that amp the isolation and heat—the film oozes a darkly sensual vibe of psychological bondage, forbidden desire, and mounting menace, where erotic games bleed into genuine peril without losing that glossy Mediterranean allure.
Florence Guérin scorches as Lorenza, the mid-80s French siren whose ripe curves, pouting lips, and fearless sensuality dominate every frame; she strips with pure abandon, her full breasts and inviting form lingering in lingering, explicit softcore couplings and nude provings that leave little to the imagination, radiating a magnetic, vengeful allure that makes her both victim and predator in this saucy power-play.
