Hats off to director Mira Nair for having pulled off this Epic Erotic Movie, Kamasutra: A Tale of Love (1996) and that too in India, one of the most sexually repressed, frustrated, hostile & hypocritical countries on the planet, as far as Sex is concerned.
Apparently, in order to film in India, the production had to use a fake title “Tara and Maya”, as indian authorities would not have permitted the film to be made there had they known its true title and content.
When Indian authorities eventually became aware of the content of the film during shooting, the producers and the director were forced to bribe them as “protection money” to avoid prosecution.
During filming in India, government officials made visits to the set and the cast had to improvise fake scenes which avoided the nudity and sexuality that was critical to the plot.
This Tastefully & Aesthetically made Movie about Sex, was banned in the two Most Sex-Obsessed countries in the world, India and Pakistan, because of the Sex scenes… 😆😆😆😆

About this film
Tara and Maya are two inseparable friends in India with the same tastes, habits, and hobbies. Years later the two have matured but have maintained their friendship. Tara marries the local prince, Raj Singh, who soon succeeds the throne as the sole heir. After the marriage, Raj gets bored of Tara and starts seeking another female to satisfy his sexual needs. He notices Maya and is instantly attracted to her. He has her included as one of his courtesans, and is intimate with her. What happens when Tara finds out and how far will she go to keep her marriage intact?
